Public Works

The Public Works Department is the glue that holds the Borough’s entire infrastructure together. The department is responsible for all borough owned building maintenance, roadways and trail maintenance, stream bank maintenance, snow and ice mitigation on all roadways and sidewalks, and lastly the sewer system that services the Borough.

Stockertown's Public Works Department currently consists of a director and 2 part-time laborers.

The director is responsible for scheduling routine tasks as well as planning for projects as they become necessary. He works closely with the Borough council informing them of the department's needs so they can forecast and plan such in their future budgets.

More specifically, routine tasks include but are far from limited to the following:

• Mowing of the Boroughs grounds, parks, and the Rail to Trails system that runs thru the Borough
• Crack sealing, pot hole repairs, and weed removal on all Borough roadways
• Maintenance of all Borough parks to include weed removal, park equipment repair and proper footing and fill around the park play areas. Maintaining park restroom facilities and park pavilions
• Scheduled leaf removal and branch pick up
• Snow and ice mitigation on all roadways and sidewalks 24/7 as a priority
• Stream bank maintenance and foot bridges
• Maintenance and scheduled inspections and warranty responsibilities on all Borough vehicles and motorized equipment as well as maintenance of small hand tools and equipment

Every bit as important is the maintenance of the Borough’s sewer infrastructure. All manholes and laterals are monitored on rotation for blockages and repairs. The department has the capability to clear most blockages with their equipment.

Above all, the director is responsible for the safety and education of his men by requesting training courses as they become available and appropriate. As reiterated above, the Public Works Department has a huge and constant responsibility to the residents of the Borough as well as maintaining the integrity of their new facility and equipment.
